Serial Speed Reader is a free and easy way to read through a long text and will display it word-by-word. It can be set up in a way to slow down the speed of the display of the selected text. This is a feature that only works on a select set of browsers.
It can also be used with an icon and other ways to show the selected text that will save space on the screen and allow the user to navigate through the text.
It is BETA, and therefore, there are bugs. Please report them so that they can be fixed.
